Obituary for Lena Mae Meeks

Lena Mae  Meeks
LENA MAE MEEKS was born in Sulphur Springs, Alabama, on Thursday, September 5, 1940, to Thomas Lee Joyner and Iva Mae Harrison. Lena relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where she obtained employment with Western Electric. There, she built a solid foundation of friends. She later was employed with Grant Hospital. Lena remained an exceptional and beloved employee of Grant Hospital until retirement. During retirement, Lena enjoyed volunteering for various nursing homes as well as spending time with family. Listening to the blues, watching westerns, and playing her numbers were favorite pastimes. Every Sunday morning, one found Lena watching Joel Olsteen. She was a faithful viewer and enjoyed his ministry. Lena transitioned home on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ella Belle Little; father, Thomas Lee Joyner; mother Iva Mae Harrison; son, Alfred T. Meeks; sisters, Iva “Penny” Harrison and Beulah Mae Ideltle; brothers, James Joyner, Sr., George Joyner, and Henry Harrison; and ex-husband and special friend, Alfred G. Meeks. She is survived by her daughters, Tammie (Wilmot T.) Meeks and Yolanda (Derek) Parks; sons, Floyd Meeks and Christopher Meeks; grandchildren, Charles (Lilly) Jones, Lyneque Meeks, Kendal (Heather) Jones, Stephen Meeks, Waykeeia Davis, Cordero Meeks, Makesha Parks, Derek Parks, Jr., Devonna Parks, Robert (Natasha) Meeks, Patrick Meeks, Rayshawn Meeks, Dominic Meeks, Donte Meeks, Deandre Meeks, Diamond Meeks, Amber Meeks, Christopher Meeks, Jr., Du’Juan Meeks, DezJuan Meeks, Christian Meeks, and Noah Meeks; 36 great grandchildren; brother, Willie Joyner; sisters, Ella Chambliss and Mae Ruth (Carl) Royale; special family members, David S. and Jeremiah “L.L.”; other family members and friends.
