Obituary for Bessie Weltha Newby

Bessie Weltha Newby
Bessie W. Newby born on March 17, 1924 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Bessie attended Bluefield College and returned home after the death of her mother. She then worked and retired from B & T in their Human Resources Department. Bessie was a faithful member of Second Community Church, and lived a very full and fruitful life as she lovingly cared for so many of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands Oscar Newby and Albert Smith, daughter Pamela (Aaron) Presberry, siblings Harry (Lois) Gentry, Angie (Robert Sr.) Greer, Joseph (Zenobia) Gentry, Howard (Carrie) Gentry, and Gertrude (Clarence) Froe. Left to carry on her legacy of love are her daughter, Shelly Oakman; grandsons, David (Elese) Mahan, Michael Thompkins, Demetrius Oakman; granddaughters, Angela Thompkins and Tiffany (Lee) Harris; great-grand children, Jessica Mahan, Alexis Mahan, David W. Mahan, Simone Mahan, Demisha Oakman, Demetrius Oakman, Dylane Oakman, Nuova Harris, Alyna Harris, Dante Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, the family is not having a funeral service. There will be a brief graveside service at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068 at 10 am on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Immediately following the service, family and friends will gather at Second Community Church, 311 S Highland Ave. Columbus, OH 43223 for a repass.

The family would like to thank the many family and friends who have brought meals, called, messaged, prayed, and supported us during our time of grief. Remembering that we do not grieve as those who have no hope, because those who are in Christ will see her again.
